IRS Announces Start Date For The Tax Filing Season

The Internal Revenue Service (IRS) has announced that tax season will open on Monday, January 27, 2020. The IRS will begin accepting paper and electronic tax returns that day.


The due date for most 2019 individual federal income tax returns is April 15, 2020. The IRS expects to process more than 150 million individual tax returns, with most of the returns filed before the April due date. The due date for most 2019 extended individual federal income tax returns is October 15, 2020.



Other Due Dates for 2019 Income Tax Returns:

(for calendar year individuals & entities)

- Partnerships (Form 1065):

  • Federal & Wisconsin: March 16, 2020

  • Extended Federal: September 15, 2020

  • Extended Wisconsin: October 15, 2020*

- S Corporations (Form 1120):

  • Federal & Wisconsin: March 16, 2020

  • Extended Federal: September 15, 2020

  • Extended Wisconsin: October 15, 2020*

- C Corporations (Form 1120):

  • Federal & Wisconsin: April 15, 2020

  • Extended Federal: October 15, 2020

  • Extended Wisconsin: November 16, 2020*

* If you have an approved Federal tax extension (IRS Form 7004), your Wisconsin corporate filing deadline will be automatically extended to 30 days past the Federal extension deadline.
